Frequently asked questions

What is a Lasting Power of Attorney?

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions about your finances or health if you cannot.

What are the types of LPA?

Property & Financial Affairs: Manages bank accounts, investments, bills, and property transactions.

Health & Welfare: Makes decisions about care, residence, and medical treatment.

Why do I need an LPA?

Without an LPA, the Court of Protection decides who manages your affairs, which can be slow, costly, and may not reflect your wishes.

Who can be my attorney?

Anyone over 18 you trust — family, friends, or a professional.

When should I make an LPA?

It must be done while you have mental capacity. Don’t wait until it’s too late.

How long does it take to register an LPA?

Typically 8–10 weeks with the Office of the Public Guardian, but we handle the process to avoid delays.
