What is the OPG fee for registering a Lasting Power of Attorney, and who pays less?
The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) charges £92 to register each Lasting Power of Attorney, so £184 for a pair. You pay half if the person making the LPA has an income under £12,000 a year before tax, and nothing if they receive certain means-tested benefits.

The standard fee
Every LPA has to be registered with the OPG before it can be used. The fee is £92 per LPA. If you register both a property and financial affairs LPA and a health and welfare LPA, the total is £184. The fee is paid when you apply and is not refundable.
Who pays less
- Half the fee (£46 per LPA) if the person making the LPA (the donor) has an income before tax of less than £12,000 a year.
- No fee if the donor receives certain means-tested benefits when the application is made.
- Universal Credit. Someone who receives Universal Credit is assessed for a reduction. They cannot be assessed for a full exemption.
The OPG publishes the exact list of qualifying benefits in its application form for a reduction or exemption (form LPA120), so it is worth checking the current version on gov.uk.

How this fits with our fees
The OPG fee is separate from our own fee and is not part of our package prices. We will tell you upfront which applies to you and help you claim any reduction or exemption. Where we handle the registration, we collect the OPG fee and submit it with your application. See our fees explainer for the full picture.
